Most of you may know that I am a 'closet economist' based on my background in the securities business. I wanted to address some observations on the current economic climate in Arizona.
-The market is currently adjusting to a new spending level by consumers and businesses are adjusting to that lower demand.
-We are experiencing 'select hiring' by some of our clients who have cut back staff to the bone. Temping workers as the economy picks up will be a popular option as the cost to hire, train and retrain staff continues to increase.
-Finding quality workers now is actually harder than a few years back. You have to wade through hundreds of applicants to find one good one. (If you don't believe that...sit with me for a day)
-Banks are still not lending to businesses. Until this changes the small business owner will run a really tight budget and a full-fledged recovery will not happen.
-Our State still has the right climate and space to attract new businesses and employees. Every time I see a tornado, flood, or hurricane I hear the U-Haul's starting up!
